Welcome

Children’s Literacy Campaign

The Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook strives to help solve literacy deficiencies in our village by providing free books for at risk children.  The Fallbrook Child Development Center was the first recipient of a treasure chest filled with age appropriate books for 2-, 3-, and 4-year old classrooms.  These preschoolers are provided with the opportunity to select from a wide variety of reading materials.

Center Director Reva Reece graciously accepted the first treasure chest delivered by Vice President Lynne Kindler, Secretary Reggie Grondin, Past President Walt Schuette, and Immediate Past President Wayne King.  Reece stated, “It will be a very special event for each classroom when the treasure chest makes a visit.”

Reggie Grondin, Master Craftsman and Treasure Chest Builder Extraordinaire crafts hand-made treasure chests from donated lumber and materials.  The Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook then fills the treasure chest with books for the children.

President Karen Morris stated, “The treasure chests are filled with more than $300 worth of books.  The goal of our gift is to increase literacy in children in the community.”

Interested persons can help by donating new and “gently used” books or cash to Treasure Chest Literacy Campaign.  Book donations can be delivered to the Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook, on Tuesday mornings from 7 am to 8 am at the Lace Apron Restaurant, 118 Main Street, Fallbrook, California.  Monetary donations should be addressed to the Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook, P. O. Box 54, Fallbrook, California and marked for the Treasure Chest Literacy Campaign.
