Scholarships

 

The Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook  presents scholarships to Key Club Members who are graduating seniors from the following schools: Fallbrook Union High School, Ivy High School, and Oasis High School.  These scholarships are cash awards to be used to further the recipient's education.

 


General Criteria  

 

The scholarship awards will be made on the basis of community service, leadership activities, and academic performance.  At the minimum the successful applicant will have:

1.  Participated in school and community activities that demonstrate both outstanding community service and outstanding leadership.

 

2.  Demonstrated academic success by attaining at least a 2.5 grade point average.

 

3.  Written recommendations by a member of the school's faculty and a member of the community (not a family member).


Conditions of Eligibility  

 

To be eligible applicants must:

1.  Be an active member of the Key Club at the time of application.  Additional points may be credited to the applicant who has participated in K-Kids and/or Builders Club.

 

2.  Be a graduating senior at the time of application.

 

3.  Submit a written application on or before March 1st of each year.


How to Apply for a Scholarship  

 

Key Club Members who meet the conditions of eligibility and who are interested in applying for a scholarship will submit their request as provided for in these procedures.  Applicants will complete, obtain, and provide the following documentation to the Faculty Advisor for the Key Club at Fallbrook Union High School.  Applications will include the following documentation:

1.  A completed Scholarship Application Form.

 

2.  A completed Community Service and Leadership Form.

 

3.  Two Letters of Reference using the Applicant Reference Form.

 

4.  A short essay (250-300 words) about the importance of volunteerism, community service, and leadership.  Essays may be handwritten, printed, or typewritten but must be legible.  Essays will be judged for content, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.  The topic, student's name, and page number will be included on each page. 

 

5.  A transcript clearly reflecting their current Grade Point Average.


Method of Selection  

 

The Faculty Advisor for the Key Club at Fallbrook Union High School will accept completed applications on or before March 1st each year.  Applications should then be delivered to the Secretary, Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook for preliminary review and administrative processing. 

 

A Scholarship Selection Committee, composed of members of the Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook's Board of Directors, will review all candidate applications on or before April 1st each year.  An Application for Scholarship Score Sheet will be completed by each committee member for each candidate.  All applications and completed score sheets will be returned to the Secretary for final processing and retention.  Scholarships will be awarded to candidates who attain the highest scores. 

 

The Secretary, Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook will report the names of successful applicants to the Scholarship Coordinator, Fallbrook Union High School not later than April 15th each year. 

 

The President, Kiwanis Club of Fallbrook will inform successful applicants by congratulatory correspondence. 

 

Scholarships will be presented at an appropriate awards ceremony in the Bob Burton Performing Arts Center located at Fallbrook Union High School, Fallbrook, California.
