Sponsoring Kiwanis clubs, such as ours, help support the BUG program, nationwide at local-area elementary schools. In cooperation with Fallbrook schools, our club helps support the BUG program by planning recognition events, providing awards, and establishing partnerships with local community businesses to secure support for the program.
Our club initiated its first BUG program at Live Oak Elementary School. Fourth Grade Students honored as the first BUG recipients for December 2006 are: (Top Row (Left to Right): Jose Antonio Ruiz, Irina Johnson, and John Morales. Bottom Row (Left to Right): Marina Lopez Casteneda, Zalena Chavez, and Cassandra Batty. Presenting the certificates is Kiwanis Division 37's LtGov-Elect Walt Schuette. Our congratulations go to each of these students! A word about teachers and staff. The BUG program cannot function effectively without the support of the school staff and most importantly the teachers. In Live Oak Elementary School, Principal Tom Rhine and his staff fully support the Kiwanis Club's efforts to assist teachers in helping students to bring up their grades. Without their support and dedication this vital program could not exist. Our thanks and praise go out to Principal Rhine, his staff, and all of the participating teachers. A SUPER BUG also is honored as part of this program. A SUPER BUG is a student who served as a mentor assisting others in achieving their goals of bringing up one grade. To learn more about how the BUG program works in the Fallbrook area, contact our club and a club representative will provide more information. Or visit the Bring Up Grades web site. |
